Fundraising
Like every non-profit agency, Fair Housing Napa Valley must compete annually for diminishing federal and local dollars. Therefore we depend on private support from people who believe in our commitment to civil rights, human dignity, and the right to live in the neighborhood of choice. We also receive private contributions from many of the clients we help, both tenants and landlords.
Fair Housing Napa Valley is dedicated to promoting and developing fairness and equality of housing opportunity for all people. When people sense that they did not get the rental apartment they wanted because they were discriminated against on the basis of their race, national origin, disability or because they have children, among other protected classes, we are here to help them seek relief. When poor families' complain of non-functional heaters or extensive leaks that stimulate mold, we step in to educate property managers and landlords about their responsibilities, and achieve better living conditions for the aggrieved clients.
Fair Housing Napa Valley is currently funded by government money from HUD, the local housing authorities and the Community Development Block Grant. Private donors include Auction Napa Valley, the Community Foundation, mobile home park owners, and private donors who support our work directly through their generous gifts. Much of our public and private funding is the result of grant writing for very specific and restricted activities. Individual donations allow the agency to provide for immediate needs that might not have been envisioned during the writing of a grant.
Fair Housing Napa Valley is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to educating Napa County residents about their Fair Housing and California Rental Rights and Responsibilities. FHNV also provides conciliation between all parties regarding rental problems and fair housing complaints. The agency often serves as the last available neutral party before an issue goes to Small Claims Court. Under certain circumstances conciliation is not possible or preferable, as some cases need to be reviewed and resolved by a judge. When this occurs, we can provide our clients with referrals to Legal Aid, private attorneys, or referrals to the Self Help Center at the Napa Superior Courthouse.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to Fair Housing Napa Valley, please either send us an email with your name and mailing address or call our office. We would be happy to send you a donation envelope that you can fill out and return to our office.
